Overview
Geography
Singapore's islands lie between Malaysia and Indonesia, in southeastern Asia. Its lowlying terrain forms a gently undulating central plateau. The islands form a focal point for Southeast Asian sea routes.
Pulau Ujong is by far the largest island, while land reclamation has removed former islands and created new ones. Fish and deepwater ports are natural resources. Bukit Timah is the highest point, and the Singapore Strait is the lowest point.

Flag and symbols
Red and white form equal horizontal bands; a vertical white crescent on the red band has a circle of five five-pointed white stars to its right. Red stands for brotherhood and equality; white, purity and virtue. The waxing crescent moon symbolizes a young nation on the ascendancy; stars represent national ideals: democracy, peace, progress, justice, and equality. The lion, merlion—a mythical half-lion, half-fish creature—and orchid are national symbols.
