Government
A federal parliamentary republic governs Nepal. Its legal system combines English common law and Hindu legal concepts. The latest constitution was approved by the Second Constituent Assembly on 16 September 2015, signed by the president, and became effective on 20 September 2015. Independence dates to 1768, when Prithvi Narayan Shah unified Nepal. Constitution Day, 20 September (2015), is the national holiday.
