Overview

Geography

An island in the South Pacific Ocean, Nauru lies south of the Marshall Islands. Its sandy beach rises to a fertile ring around raised coral reefs, with a phosphate plateau at the center.

Nauru is the smallest country in the Pacific Ocean, the smallest country outside Europe, and the world's smallest island country. Command Ridge is the country's highest point. The Pacific Ocean is the country's lowest point. Its natural resources are phosphates and fish. Nauru is one of the three great phosphate rock islands in the Pacific Ocean, alongside Banaba in Kiribati and Makatea in French Polynesia.
