Overview
Name
The name derives from the Arabic name "Ribat el-Fath", combining "ribat", meaning "fortified monastery", and "fath", meaning "conquest". In the 12th century, the third Almohad sultan, Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Manṣur, gave this name to a fort on the site.
