Overview
Name
English settlers named the city Port Clarence in 1827 after the Duke of Clarence. Spain renamed it Santa Isabel in 1843 for Queen Isabella II; it became Malabo in 1973 after King Malabo, last king of the Bubi, a local ethnic group.
